5.10.12
1. A teacher or administrator, upon seeing a suspected drug substance or alcohol,
may ask the student to relinquish the substance. Once in possession of the substance,
if a suspected drug, it should immediately be sent to the police for laboratory
analysis. If the substance is alcohol, local determination may be made.
2. If a student refuses to relinquish the substance, the student may not be
searched or physically compelled to relinquish the substance and at that point, the
parents will be immediately notified of the incident.
3. If the substance is a narcotic, no punishment should be administered by the
school. Arrest and/or prosecution is the province of the police and will be pursued
or not, at their discretion.
4. A student convicted of possession, but not for the traffic of drugs, and who is
not sentenced to jail, should not be suspended or expelled from school.
